Bluegrass Bites

Tailgating is soon! Yippee! I found a great wing recipe that I am going to try this year.

KENTUCKY WINGS
3 pounds chicken wings (about 16)
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
1/2 cup whiskey
2 tablespoons butter, melted
Thin orange wedges and pineapple slices as a garnish (optional)

1. In a foil lined 15 x 10x1 lined baking pan arrange the wings in a single layer. Bake at 375 for 20 minutes.
2. For sauce in a slow cooker stir together butter, syrup and whiskey. Add wings, stirring to coat.
3. Cover and cook on low heat setting for 4 hours or on high heat setting for 2 hours.

Here are some photos from 2 seasons ago (I did not tailgate last year because I was to sick and pregnant!) My husband is making his favorite drink "Hammer" he discovered it in college at Two Keys. White Grape Juice +Vodka=hangover. But, he loves it!

This year is bittersweet since it's our last Fall in KY. At least for a while...

  1. Oh my goodness. I just stumbled onto your blog {from Just Lovely} and I couldn't believe what I saw. I knew Craig @ UK. Y'all are so cute together!

I'm totally making these wings for our first tailgate...even though it'll be at Clemson and not UK {tear}...

    Cheers!

  2. I might have to steal that recipe! And big disappointment that Two Keys doesn't carry white grape juice on a day to day basis (trust me I tried to order it this summer). :) Just for football games, so Craig should be good to go!

  3. Ms. Bright, Love your blog! I was at UK the same time as Craig. We actually lived in the same apt building at the same time! Small world. Lindsey, I made the wings. They were good but a little to maple syrupy for me. Next time I am going to use less syrup. I found the recipe in the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook. We learned that Two Keys does not even make hammers anymore when we went there last year, Boy, did we feel old!
